Wednesday

Martial arts on TV - star trek enterprise

T'pol did vulcan martial arts which essentially entailed rolling around on the floor for no reason.

Tuesday

Martial arts on TV - stargate atlantis

A lady did arnis and whilst external, was at least entertaining.

Then they had this neanderthal guy do his stuff and it was so dumb-ass; dreadlocks and stooped posture.

Monday

Martial arts on TV - stargate sg-1

Stargate SG-1 featured armour + chain mail clad warriors doing capoeira. This was one of the stupidest things I'd ever seen.

Later in the show they had a guy doing some kind of stick combat, and this was much better.

Yumi - badly made dresses?

I tried a Yumi dress on two days ago and found that the fabric had come away from the seam. Yesterday it happened with a second item.

The sad part about this is that I'm exceedingly small and was so glad to find that Yumi dresses fit my petite figure so well. Now, I'm entirely disenchanted with Yumi products and am unlikely to buy any more.

Thursday

Students imagine that Hubby would be into kung fu movies.

Monday

Yumi Direct - returning my returns

I returned 2 dresses to Yumi Direct because both items had stains on them. A couple of days ago Yumi posted the same dress back to me - stains and all.

Today I received the second dress and this one was again the very same item I returned last week.

Are you kidding me? This is shabby and unprofessional service.

Tuesday

Please and thank you

I notice on films that nobody says please and thank you anymore.

In everyday life this is quite apparent also. Common courtesy has been replaced by "Get out of my way" or even worse: a complete disregard for your presence.

Many people drive their cars this way; with poor lane discipline and serious risks being taken in order to shave seconds off a journey.

Monday

Table manners

I recently watched a 9 year old girl demonstrate modern table manners. Most of the food went in her mouth but a notable portion ended up on the floor and down her front.

9 years old? She had the skills of a 3 year old.

Don't people teach table manners anymore?

Sunday

Hubby and Me as happy as can be

Wanderlust?

I've always enjoyed romcoms but the recent offerings have been truly pitiful.

Wanderlust hit rock-bottom. Coarse, vulgar, corny, tasteless. The script was terrible and the plot lame. I winced through 90 minutes feeling bad for exposing my hubby to such tripe.

Thursday

Woola from John Carter

John Carter was the best film we've seen all year long. Absolutely riveting.

Based on stories written by the guy who created Tarzan.

Monday

Speed

Hubby has amazing memory and a wide range of very strong cognitive skills, but his main 'edge' is the sheer speed of his brain. Students have no idea how fast Hubby thinks. I can keep up for a few minutes and then I get a headache.

Hubby's dad Peter says that debating/talking with Hubby is like having a drill boring into your forehead.

Saturday

Disputes

Periodically we find ourselves in some sort of inadvertent dispute: the landlord wants to keep our bond, we receive a parking fine displaying a ticket, an on-line shop won't let us return goods... etc. You get the idea.

Whilst we can both handle such disputes adequately, Hubby is superb at it. He researches the law on-line, then  writes these amazingly simple, direct letters or e-mails, and always wins his case. He doesn't get upset. He just does it and wins immediately.

Friday

Yoga

Hubby did yoga for many years with a really strict old lady in Bradford. She was cruel and forced you into postures that your body was not comfortable with.

This in itself explains why yoga and tai chi don't mix.

Thursday

Pilates

We tried pilates for a while and Hubby even had insanely expensive private lessons for a few years but it just didn't click with the tai chi.

The disconnected limb use and contracted abdomen were incongruent.

Wednesday

Weight training

Hubby was encouraged to try weight training many years back by a tai chi buddy but he never got into it.

The contractive muscle use associated with weight training is the opposite of tai chi and bagua; where the muscles lengthen rather than contract.
