Yumi Direct - returning my returns

I returned 2 dresses to Yumi Direct because both items had stains on them. A couple of days ago Yumi posted the same dress back to me - stains and all.

Today I received the second dress and this one was again the very same item I returned last week.

Are you kidding me? This is shabby and unprofessional service.

Tuesday

Please and thank you

I notice on films that nobody says please and thank you anymore.

In everyday life this is quite apparent also. Common courtesy has been replaced by "Get out of my way" or even worse: a complete disregard for your presence.

Many people drive their cars this way; with poor lane discipline and serious risks being taken in order to shave seconds off a journey.

Monday

Table manners

I recently watched a 9 year old girl demonstrate modern table manners. Most of the food went in her mouth but a notable portion ended up on the floor and down her front.

9 years old? She had the skills of a 3 year old.

Don't people teach table manners anymore?

Hubby and Me as happy as can be

Wanderlust?

I've always enjoyed romcoms but the recent offerings have been truly pitiful.

Wanderlust hit rock-bottom. Coarse, vulgar, corny, tasteless. The script was terrible and the plot lame. I winced through 90 minutes feeling bad for exposing my hubby to such tripe.

Thursday

Woola from John Carter

John Carter was the best film we've seen all year long. Absolutely riveting.

Based on stories written by the guy who created Tarzan.

Monday

Speed

Hubby has amazing memory and a wide range of very strong cognitive skills, but his main 'edge' is the sheer speed of his brain. Students have no idea how fast Hubby thinks. I can keep up for a few minutes and then I get a headache.

Hubby's dad Peter says that debating/talking with Hubby is like having a drill boring into your forehead.

Saturday

Disputes

Periodically we find ourselves in some sort of inadvertent dispute: the landlord wants to keep our bond, we receive a parking fine displaying a ticket, an on-line shop won't let us return goods... etc. You get the idea.

Whilst we can both handle such disputes adequately, Hubby is superb at it. He researches the law on-line, then  writes these amazingly simple, direct letters or e-mails, and always wins his case. He doesn't get upset. He just does it and wins immediately.

Friday

Yoga

Hubby did yoga for many years with a really strict old lady in Bradford. She was cruel and forced you into postures that your body was not comfortable with.

This in itself explains why yoga and tai chi don't mix.

Thursday

Pilates

We tried pilates for a while and Hubby even had insanely expensive private lessons for a few years but it just didn't click with the tai chi.

The disconnected limb use and contracted abdomen were incongruent.

Wednesday

Weight training

Hubby was encouraged to try weight training many years back by a tai chi buddy but he never got into it.

The contractive muscle use associated with weight training is the opposite of tai chi and bagua; where the muscles lengthen rather than contract.

Tuesday

Safari is lousy

Safari has to be the worst search engine ever. I'm trying to blog and it just logs me out and ask for me to repeatedly re-login. Great.

Google Chrome is better. Mozilla Firefox is twitchy and Internet Explorer is so-so...

Induction is over

Induction is finally over. We've had a month of new starters and now class can settle back into the familiar routine.

Hubby has worked very hard - both in class and behind the scenes. He's also been training extra-hard lately. A few days of mild training and relaxation is in order I think.

Sunday

Riker & Troi - ugh!

Riker is so petulant and smarmy, whilst Troi is so miserable-looking and her outfits are awful.

Saturday

Rain, rain come again

Everyone moans about the rain... then they moan about the humidity.

Soon, they'll moan about the cold again.

Thursday

Time

Once in class Ray was clock watching and Hubby told him off. Hubby had his back to the clock and told Ray what time it was. Ray's jaw just hung open.

Hubby couldn't see the clock but got the time right. When asked how he did it, Hubby said that he'd just guessed.

This kind of thing happens all the time at home so I know it's for real. I don't know how Hubby knows and he doesn't always guess right, but he hits the mark an uncanny amount of times.

Riker

Sometimes Riker seems OK but I just can't bring myself to like him.

Tai chi involves work

Hubby takes his tai chi VERY seriously.

For instance, today he trained between 5:15 - 8:00 without pause or rest. Ate some granola.

I drove him over 6 miles to the supermarket. He loaded his rucksack up with 40lbs of shopping and then walked home before 10:30. He rested briefly.

Next, he did over 30 minutes of weaponry and over 30 minutes of tai chi form before reading and constructive rest.

This is pretty much Hubby's average morning.
He doesn't shop each day but still walks 3-6 miles. In addition to solo training he also teaches students and occasionally trains with me.

Monday

Instructors

It is widely known that instructors in whatever discipline neglect their own training...
Not so with my hubby.

He's just the opposite; unless he's done 4-5 hours of training he won't teach anyone or do anything else. The Tao Te Ching says: "master self before attempting to master others".

Thursday

Animal skin

I know that many people like to wear animal skin clothing but I can't see the appeal. Me Tarzan, You Jane? Is it some kind of cosplay/role play thing?

Friday

Post apocalyptic

I watched The Postman and Soylent Green.

The Postman was a bit cheezy and the 40 year old Kevin Costner looked like he was about 60. The final shot of the movie supposedly showed Costner's character on horseback but anyone could tell it was a stunt double. How ridiculous.

Soylent Green is one of Charlton Heston's superb sci-fi movies. A really credible vision of the near future. Disturbing and entirely plausible.

Exploring between rain storms

Hubby dug out his hardcore mountaineering goretex jacket - a sure sign that he's not so optimistic about the continuing rain.
