Lost... the end
"This is the way the world ends...
This is the way the world ends...
This is the way the world ends...
Not with a bang
This is the way the world ends...
Not with a bang
But with a whimper."
(T S Eliot)
Lost didn't end with a bang. It was certainly not a crescendo, a climax. It kind of fizzled out, leaving the audience vaguely confused.
By the time we reached "Across the Sea" I was thinking wow, and very excited about the ending. Then the ending came and it just wasn't anything remarkable.
They built it up so nicely as well; the memories of the various characters proved to be an effective, nostalgic montage. You fondly recalled 6 years of episodes and incidents. Even Charlie's past made you smile.
The final battle with the smoke monster was lame. The revelation that everyone was living in a post-death illusory reality in order to work through their issues... a bit flat.

Bond of choice?
Hubby once saw an interview with Roger Moore in which the interviewer said that Connery was rated as being the Bond of choice, and that Moore was accused of spoofing the character.
Moore replied that given the bad guys, the hide-outs, the cars, the gadgets, the plot, the nature of a Bond film, how could anybody take it seriously?
Yes, he had a point...

The Man With the Golden Gun
Tried watching an old Bond movie with Roger Moore...
Racist, sexist, chauvinistic, corny, spoofy, with appalling acting, horrendous fight scenes, terrible fashion and an utterly predictable plot.
Moore drawls without really opening his mouth.

Old Bond movie songs
I've been playing a selection of Bond movie songs in the car for about the last month. They're silly and fun.

The Lumiere
I went with Hubby last Thursday to see the Lumiere show. We stayed a while but went home for some food.
Yesterday whilst walking past St Oswald's Graveyard we noticed a Lumiere display perched on top of some graves.

Lost... the plot
One of things I don't like about Lost is the way in which almost everyone is some kind of combat expert. Kate regularly takes grown men down with her punches, but suffers no injuries or damaged knuckles. Sayid was an Iraqi torturer yet this is seen to translate to mean ninja/assassin/James Bond/hitman. Huh?
Also, nobody does any form of exercise on the show or any kind of martial arts training. But somehow they are supple, honed and fit.
Lost is filled with things that beggar belief, but this combat situation has to be the stupidest thing of all.

Winnie-the-pooh
The original Winnie-the-Pooh stories are far superior to the newer ones. I have some of the original Pooh toys from when Hubby was younger.
The Shepard drawings from the 1920's are really cute.
