Car broke down. Again.
It broke down twice in 24 hours. The previous day it had been to the garage for repair due to the engine light coming on. The new problems today were unrelated. The suspension coil snapped.

2 years of marriage
I met Hubby in 2007, moved in with him in 2009 and married him a few months later. Now, approaching 2 years of marriage I can sincerely say that married life been the best 2 years of my life.
We have such unimaginable fun together. Hubby is very different to most people: changeable, curious, driven, contemplative and free. Married life is never stale or boring. We have enjoyed a wonderful 2 years of marriage.

High School reunion music?

Strengths & weaknesses
Hubby has many strengths but only one real weakness: he pushes himself way too hard.
He tells everyone else to go easy but he never does this himself. He trains vastly harder than anyone else in our school and never has a rest day.
My role is to tame him.

The new Star Trek movie(s)
The re-imagined Star Trek universe - as featured in the Abrams movie - is not to my taste at all.
I like the sedate pace of Star Trek, the warmth of the characters, the ethical dilemmas, the thoughtfulness of Roddenberry's vision.
Turning Star Trek into an action movie is a mistake. I wish they'd create a new TV show.

Should you fast?
Fasting is a traditional method of eliminating toxins and
gaining spiritual clarity.
But it must be approached with caution.
How you begin a fast, how you break a fast and what you do during (or don't do) during a fast are all considerations.
Fasting affects your body in quite significant ways.
If you are interested in fasting, then do some research beforehand; find out if it is the right approach for you.
During your fast, drink filtered water, avoid driving and try to rest.

We love these kind of films

Charlie Kaufman is totally insane.
We're both good at predicting what comes next when we watch a DVD, so it's refreshing when you have no idea what's going to happen next.

Captain Kirk
It is odd to think that Captain Kirk's reputation in public consciousness is spoofy.
I think that people are confusing William Shatner with Captain Kirk. Shatner is spoofy, Kirk is not.
When I started watching The Original Series, I was surprised by how clipped and serious Kirk was. There's fun and romance in the show, but ultimately Kirk is a very focused, disciplined character.
Don't believe me? Watch the show again.

Fast
Historically, Christians would fast all day on a Friday.
It later became no meat day, but they would still eat fish (maybe the source of confusion for some would-be vegetarians? After all, fish is meat).
In recent times, Christians ignored the Friday Fast.

The Friday Fast
Fasting on a Friday helps us to gain clarity and calm, shrink the stomach and reduce hunger cravings. It also detoxes the body.
We like to go without food from Thursday 6:30 PM approx through to Friday evening meal. We only drink filtered water: warm or room temperature. We put masking tape on the fridge and cupboard doors as a reminder.
We started the day with a long cuddle, followed by 20 mins or so reading spiritual books downstairs, and a very nice walk along the quiet riverbank. No camera today. Then home for a lie down, and off to work for me.
Hubby washed-up, cleaned the kitchen, stripped the bed linen and replaced it, put the laundry on and started his training. All in all, a nice start to the day.

Men's hair products
I think that men's hair products were developed to hide the damage caused by indifferent barbers.
Falling standards
Now that Hubby has hair again he has to suffer the indignity of repeated bad haircuts.
His latest cut (today) has performed by a neurotic individual who butchered him in just under 3 minutes, charged the fee and left him to survey the damage.
Don't people take ANY pride in their work anymore?
Hubby is such a conscientious tai chi instructor, yet he lives in a slapdash society... we all do. Crap!

Hubby swords
I persuaded Hubby to show a couple of his swords to students who come to the house on a Tuesday night. To be honest, he wasn't so keen. He's wary of "exciting" students.
Hubby thinks that students should keep their mind on what they are currently training instead of looking at some distant, possible future. He encourages a degree of looking ahead but wants to keep the training focussed.
I think that the swords are beautifully crafted and worth showing.
Jian and sabre:
The jian is semi-sharp and not to be meddled with, whilst the sabre has not been sharpened. Both weapons are real swords. They were pretty expensive when Hubby bought them so I dread to think what they might cost these days.
Hubby doesn't mind people touching the sabre but won't allow the jian to be handled. I don't blame him. I wouldn't let anyone touch it either. The handle is rayskin and looks like alien flesh. The sword is a reproduction of a 'warring states' weapon and is a functional straight sword. The sabre is quite different, with some wonderful brass detail on the scabbard and hilt.
With Barny, Tim and Dom he illustrated the nature of 'balance' with a sword and how to recognise a balanced weapon. He used other swords to show the difference between different calibres of product, and the pros and cons of each.
A balanced blade feels very different a rubbish one. I'm aiming to get a lightweight 'real sword' dao at some point but struggle to find one that is light enough for me to handle. Hubby's main sword is REALLY heavy.

Wushu sword
My wushu sword is very light and good for my forthcoming straight sword form... I was trying to think of a name for the sword.
Hubby's swords are very heavy and I couldn't possibly do the form using them.

An eye for craftsmanship
Hubby was pleased that Marc had an appreciation of his swords. Most people seem largely disinterested: "yeah, yeah, what's next?" and it makes Hubby reluctant to share.
Wednesday
Sticks and swords
Hubby can only teach weapons forms to students who complete the Yang Cheng Fu form. The weapons forms utilise the YCF form postures. So basically, if you don't know the YCF form you can't do the associated weapons forms.
I first saw Hubby's weapons forms back in 2007, and we all tried the 2-person cane form at bootcamp a few months later.
At home, he generally commits about 30-60 minutes a day to weapons work.
We recently got a selection of new weapons for me to try: cane, staff and straight sword. I know broadsword form, 2-person cane and half of the small stick drills.
The walking stick form is very appealing; weird, quirky and exciting. Hubby freaked people out last night with a few application examples.

Knowing when to stop
Hubby says that Star Trek: Enterprise series (season 4) goes bad after the Mirror Darkly episodes. We'll stop watching at that point.
Knowing when to stop is quite a skill.
Hubby left Hammer Into Anvil to the end when we watched The Prisoner and missed the actual double final episode; and it was a great finale.
We stop the third Lord Of The Rings movie when Aragorn says that Hobbits bow to no one. I'd love to chop the dvd so it stops there by itself. The whole return to the shire ending is nothing like the book and hence a waste of time.
The Matrix trilogy can be vastly improved by only watching the first movie.
The same goes for Star Wars. We like Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and will tolerate Return of the Jedi for the space battle and Luke/Vader scenes. Episodes 1-3 are kiddy cartoons and not really of interest.

Rich Christians? Surely a contradiction?
"Go sell whatever you own and give it
to the poor. All your wealth will then be heavenly wealth. And come
follow me."
(Jesus)
I saw a very fat clergyman come outside Durham Cathedral to greet the wealthy Christians today. He looked to be extremely well-fed.
It reminded me of a painting of fat friars feasting. What an advert for Christianity!
What exactly does Easter mean these days?
Chocolate eggs, chicks, rabbits, greeting cards? Some people even give gifts to their children...
I just don't understand it anymore.
